Fuhrmann
Aims and activities of the organisation

Fuhrmann was established in Amsterdam in 1735 and is the world’s oldest wool trading company. Fuhrmann S.A. in Argentina is managed by the Gallia family, which moved their wool business from Biella, Italy in the 1960’s. By 1990, Fuhrmann S.A. joined the Schneider Group – an international group of textile companies producing and processing the most expensive animal fibers. In Argentina, Fuhrmann processes and exports wool and special fibers. Its combing mill located in Trelew, Chubut started its production in 1999. Currently the company buys some 8 million kg of raw wool and produces 4.5 million kg of tops per year, mainly of fine Merino wool. The company leads the fine wool market in Argentina. In recent years, the company also started producing wool by renting sheep farms located in the Chubut and Santa Cruz provinces as well as in the Viedma area with over 160 thousand sheep. Fuhrmann also owns a farm in the Catamarca province, where fiber from wild vicuñas is obtained and then processed in Trelew.
Fuhrmann has 166 employees, of which 50 work on the farms. The remaining work in the commercial, administrative and industrial area. The company has agreements with various universities and local institutions, covering aspects such as effluent treatment, monitoring of underground waters, etc.
Fuhrmann is a member of the FLA-Argentine Wool Federation and member of the Trelew Rural Society, as well as member of the ruling board of the regional INTA.
