AGISF-Asociación de Ganaderos de la Irrigación San Felipe
Aims and activities of the organisation

The AGISF-association of livestock farmers in the irrigation San Felipe was founded in 2005 with the aim to strengthen the small scale dairy farmers in the region of northern Lima (Huaura). Today, the association counts 150 members, who produce 40,000 kg of milk per day. AGISF employs veterinarians and technicians, who support the members in animal health issues and general herd management. AGISF sells medicine, food, semen, seeds, fertilizers for its associates that offer the service of milk analysis in the laboratory.

Over the last seven years, AGISF has developed extension and research projects with their strategic partner UNALM-Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina. In 2008, AGISF and UNALM implemented the one year project “Strategic training for dairy farmers in the irrigation San Felipe” with funding of the INCAGRO call of the national government. Two research thesis were carried out in collaboration with ETH Switzerland.

In 2012, a new project with the support from FINCyT-National Fund for Innovation, Science and Technology started at AGISF: “Technological adaptation for the physical/chemical treatment (ammonification) of corn stover to use in feed for dairy cattle in Vegueta, Huaura”.
In 2013, a new project “Implementation of a livestock software to generate information to optimize services from AGISF for its associates” started with funding from FINCyT.

The role of the organisation in the project

The Asociación de Ganaderos de la Irrigación San Felipe (AGISF) is a full partner of the EDULIVE project. It contributes experience on collaboration between farmers and governmental agencies and has a strategic alliance with UNALM. AGISF is the entry point for the EDULIVE project’s direct involvement of small and medium scale dairy producers in Peru. AGISF is not leading a Work Package (WP),  but is involved in many. In WP1, AGISF represents the needs and demands of small and medium scale farmers. It supports the consultation process and links the consortium to small producers to integrate their opinions on the needs for university curricula in Animal Sciences. In WP2, AGISF supports the establishment of cooperation mechanisms in their role as farmers association. In WP5 and WP7, AGISF collaborates with Peruvian universities in higher education as internship host, expert lecturers and by offering field visit opportunities. In WP6 and WP8, AGSIF is part of the evaluation of new mechanisms and activities implemented by the EDULIVE project.
