GLORIA
Aims and activities of the organisation

GLORIA S.A. is a transnational company – part of Grupo Gloria – that works with raw milk and exports evaporated milk to 40 countries in the Caribbean, Latin America, the Mid East and Western regions of Africa. Gloria has more than 60 years of experience in the market and is a well-known brand, together with some other milk factories in Bolivia, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Ecuador.
Nowadays, GLORIA receives more than 50% of the milk produced in Peru in the three natural regions: coast, highlands and the tropic.

GLORIA completes the whole system from the cows to the people, it has 3 major dairies in Peru: in the Southern area (Arequipa) with more than 100 milking cows, in the Northern area with 1000 milking cows and in the Tropics with 100 Gyr/Holstein cows adapted to the heat stress in that area.

GLORIA doesn’t only produce milk. It supplies the market with an extensive variety of dairy products such as: yogurt, different kinds of cheese, butter, UHT milk, non-lactose products, chocolate milk, creams, condensed milk, ice creams, juices and by-products of soy.
GLORIA also closely works together with the dairy producers and offers them a monthly report with news of the dairy sector and technologies. In addition, Gloria provides technical training and coaching for producers in the dairy farm called “Poronguito”. The training is offered by professionals working in the field of animal nutrition (roughages and concentrates), health (prevention and vaccination) and reproduction (AI). These experts are hired by GLORIA and support the company in the way that producers increase their knowledge, which diretly translates into better milk quality delivered to Gloria.
GLORIA has conducted projects with government agencies in the past. GLORIA also had a project of two years: Promoting activities of research and extension, such as production of training material related to the improvement of practices like feeding dairy catlle, with support from UNALM-Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina, US Council Grain and El Comedero (a local company).

It supports the consultation process and links the consortium to producers and business actors to integrate their opinions on the needs for university curricula in Animal Sciences. In WP2, GLORIA will be supporting the establishment of cooperation mechanisms in their role as private business partner. In WP5 and WP7, GLORIA will collaborate with Peruvian universities in higher education as internship host, expert lecturers and by offering field visit opportunities. In WP6 and WP8, GLORIA is part of the evaluation of new mechanisms and activities implemented by the EDULIVE project.
