Inca Tops – Peruvian Alpaca Industrial & Hand Knitting Yarns
Aims and activities of the organisation

Since its foundation in 1965, INCA TOPS has developed the production of alpaca tops and yarns with the best quality in the world, with great success. This has been achieved through innovative concepts and an ancient and noble tradition.
Inca Tops now offers to the world tops and yarns in alpaca, wool and cotton, as well as special blends incorporating other noble fibres of unrivalled beauty and fine quality, aimed at the market for machine and hand-knitted fabrics.
The work of Inca Tops translates into job creation, by being able to offer jobs that directly benefit more than one thousand families and to help – through its Social Responsibility Programs – many more in their progress: small knitting companies and entrepreneurs, and – especially – rural families that make a living from alpaca farming.
On the 1st of January 2011, the research center Pacomarca officially became a part of Inca Tops. This research station is amongst the world’s leading research and genetic centers for alpacas. «Pacomarca Sustainable Alpaca Network” is an enterprise that aims at sustainable development of alpaca farming. It seeks to generate benefit for all those involved in the alpaca production chain, and especially for the thousands of rural families, who make a living from this resource in the harsh conditions of the Peruvian highlands.

The role of the organisation in the project

INCA TOPS is a full partner of the EDULIVE project and contributes to the entry point for the EDULIVE project’s direct involvement with large private businesses in the fiber sector of Peru. INCA TOPS represents future employers of graduates, clients of research and an international seller in the project consortium. INCA TOPS is not leading a WP, but is involved in many. In WP1, INCA TOPS represents the needs and demands of private businesses in the livestock sector. It supports the consultation process and links the consortium to producers and business actors to integrate their opinions on the needs for university curricula in Animal Sciences. In WP2, INCA TOPS will be supporting the establishment of cooperation mechanisms in their role as private business partner. In WP5 and WP7, INCA TOPS will collaborate with Peruvian universities in higher education as internship host, expert lecturers and by offering field visit opportunities. In WP6 and WP8, INCA TOPS is part of the evaluation of new mechanisms and activities implemented by the EDULIVE project.
