Aims and activities of the organisation

Montpellier SupAgro is an International Centre for Higher Education in Agricultural Sciences. It offers a full range of training courses from Bachelor degree to PhD, as well as several excellent French Engineering Diplomas and Master Degrees. Its main purpose is initial and vocational trainings, research, scientific and technical international cooperation, development and expertise in agriculture, food, environment and rural territories fields. Montpellier SupAgro has currently 1669 students, 88 teacher-researchers and 321 staff members. Its main purpose is initial and continuing training; research, international scientific and technical cooperation, and development represent the main missions.

Agriculture, food, environment and rural territories are at the heart of its concerns. Its significant ambition is to train actors who will participate in designing and implementing the new agricultural revolution in order to:  – Feed the planet ; – Manage sustainable resources and territories. The institute is deliberately open to international education: 25 % of the students are foreigners (50% out of PhD students).The institute offers training courses specifically dedicated to Mediterranean and Tropical issues. Indeed Montpellier SupAgro is located in the heart of the most dynamic town in France. It benefits from a prominent and worldwide scientific environment in agricultural sciences, federated by Agropolis International, which provides an outstanding academic and scientific environment. This association gathers more than 2000 scientific executives within 112 research units. It is the first cluster of this kind in Europe.

The role of the organisation in the project

The Centre International d’Etudes Superieures en Sciences Agronomiques de Montpellier (MSA) is a full partner of the EDULIVE project and responsible for the stakeholder consultation concerning curricula (WP1). The experience of MSA in curricula modernisation and practical, innovative training methods will support the Argentinian and Peruvian universities in the improvement of their Bachelor and Master curricula in Animal Science. MSA is part of the expert group and conducts on-site visits to all Argentinian and Peruvian partner universities. In WP2, MSA supports the development of cooperation mechanisms between higher education and the livestock sector at large in Argentina and Peru. In WP3, MSA prepares the lecturers’ trainings as one of the European host organisations. In WP4, MSA offers training courses for lecturers in Argentina and Peru and hosts lecturers during short stays in France. In WP6 and WP8, MSA is part of the evaluation of new mechanisms and activities implemented by the EDULIVE project, providing technical input and sharing experiences from a European perspective.
